A checkerboard in an editor does not guarantee the exported file kept transparency. Inspect the alpha channel of the exact file you plan to import.

Confirm the exported file
Use the transparent PNG checker and switch to a dark preview. If the full rectangle stays white, the background is stored in the pixels.
